Why visit Venice?

Set in the Venetian lagoon, Venice has stood the test of time for centuries, becoming a symbol of resilience, beauty and extraordinary architecture.

Walking through Venice city is a magical experience: every bridge connects centuries of history, and every narrow alley reveals Gothic palaces that seem to float on the water. From the grandeur of the Grand Canal to the quiet charm of lesser-known districts, the city offers an atmosphere suspended in time.

Whether you are passionate about architecture, art or simply looking for breathtaking views, you will find countless things to see in Venice that will leave a lasting impression.

Useful information for your trip

How do you get around Venice city?

The best way to explore the city is on foot, but for longer distances the main means of transport is the vaporetto (water bus). Time-based tickets (24h, 48h or 72h) are available and are a convenient way to move around the canals and reach islands such as Murano and Burano.

Can you use bicycles in Venice?

Bicycles and similar vehicles are not allowed in the historic center. Venice is a pedestrian city, with its network of narrow streets and bridges connecting the different areas.

How does a gondola ride work?

A gondola ride is one of the most iconic things to do in Venice and can carry up to five passengers plus the gondolier. Routes usually start from designated stations and pass through smaller canals and the Grand Canal, offering unique views of historic palaces.

Which islands can you visit nearby?

Murano (famous for glassmaking), Burano (known for lace and colourful houses) and Torcello are among the most popular islands. Other notable areas include Giudecca, just across from St. Mark’s Square, and the Lido, known for its beaches and film festival
