WHERE TO SKI NEAR VENICE

Today our Blog takes us into the heart of the Italian Dolomite Alps, to Cortina D’Ampezzo! Surrounded by many of the most iconic mountains – such as Monte Cristallo, the Toffana di Rozes and Sorapiss – Cortina is a trekker and skiers’s paradise.

Roughly 2 hours drive from Venice Marco Polo Airport, Cortina D’Ampezzo is a place of wonder; a true jewel, set deeply between the three summits of the East Dolomites, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for their beauty and charm. Cortina’s prime position has made it a worldwide icon of renowned beauty for mountain and winter sports lovers.

Moreover, Cortina is well known and part of the general worldwide culture, as being an exclusive destination, to the point of being considered a true status symbol in itself, from the times of the booming mountain tourism in the ‘60s, up to the moment of its crowning glory, as an exclusive destination in the ‘80s, portrayed also in the series of comic relief Italian films, such as ‘VACANZE DI NATALE’ (Christmas holidays) of the brothers, Carlo and Enrico Vanzina.

Even today, it can be said that  “The Queen of the Dolomites” offers an atmosphere of cosmopolitan sophistication, in contrast with the traditional Ampezzo way of life that resists changes and.. the Christmas family comedy films.
