The Mainfest dates back to the Middle Ages and the consecration of the Church of the Three Kings (Dreikönigskirche) in 1340. Every summer, Frankfurt honours the river that has played a significant role in the city's history. The opening ceremony, with wine flowing from the Fountain of Justice instead of water, is highly anticipated and marks a remarkable kickoff.

The Mainfest takes place in the Fahrtor, Römerberg and Mainkai area.
Throughout the four-day festival, this area transforms into a vibrant space filled with lights, colours, and enticing aromas.
The markets, installations, and street food stands create a festive atmosphere, filling the summer air with the regional cuisine aromas of freshly baked pretzels, crispy bratwurst, craft beers, and local wines. Among these enticing smells, the aroma of braziers roasting the traditional “Ochsen am Spieß” (ox on a spit) stands out.
The local craft stands are not to be missed. For enthusiasts, unique items made from pewter - an alloy of tin, copper, antimony, and lead - are perfect for creating collectable beer mugs reminiscent of "Game of Thrones." You can also find the renowned Nymphenburg porcelain, known for its intricate baroque designs.
The historic fishermen's joust, known as "Fischerstechen," is one of the most anticipated events of the festival. Daring opponents, dressed in period costumes, compete in wooden boats armed with long poles, showcasing a spectacular display of skill and balance.
This event recalls the ancient tradition of competing for the best positions in the city’s fish market. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Main River, this tradition enchants both locals and curious travellers each year. This year's event is scheduled for August 3rd.
For those arriving from outside or wanting to avoid city traffic, we recommend using public transport, such as trams and the metro, which are convenient and well-connected. For those who prefer to drive, underground parking is available nearby.

The Mainfest is a summer event that captivates visitors with its vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, bringing to life the banks of the Main River with colours, scents, and sounds. The festival concludes with a breathtaking fireworks display reflected on the water, creating a truly magical experience. The event combines tradition, community spirit, and beautiful scenery in a pleasant August climate.
