If you think Genoa is just a small port with a few old buildings, you’re very much mistaken! Genoa is a city that captures your heart and makes you feel at home. Every winding street has a story to tell and each corner hides a flavour that lingers in your memory. If you have three days to explore the city, join us on this itinerary crafted by a true Genoese.

Day 1: The beating heart of Genoa The Proud (La Superba)

Begin your adventure at Piazza De Ferrari, the lively heart of the city and our communal gathering place. From here, you can explore the caruggi, the narrow and winding alleyways that embody the true essence of Genoa.

Continue your day with a visit to the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, a symbol of the city with a façade that reflects centuries of history. If you find yourself feeling a bit tired, consider stopping for a coffee at Caffè degli Specchi. This café has welcomed generations of Genoese in its timeless atmosphere.

In the afternoon, make your way to Porto Antico. This area is not just the port where ships dock, it’s also a place rich in memories. Local residents head here for a stroll to unwind. If you fancy getting your head in the clouds, take the Liberty-style lift to the Spianata di Castelletto, where you’ll be treated to a breathtaking panorama of the city.

Day 2: Heartwarming flavours and traditions

Today is the perfect day to indulge in one of Genoa’s greatest delights: eating! Start your day with a focaccia genovese, which is practically a religion here. To experience it like a local, visit Forno Repetto, where their focaccia is a real delicacy!

Genoa has much more to offer than just focaccia. If you enjoy pesto, you’re in for a treat. Pesto alla genovese, served with handmade spiral-shaped trofie pasta, is a dish that embodies the essence of our region. Take a stroll through San Teodoro Market to soak up the vibrant colours and aromas of our land: from fresh basil to sun-dried tomatoes, and the extra virgin olive oil used in every dish.

In the afternoon, visit the Strada Nuova Museums, where art and history converge. The stunning buildings and captivating paintings will immerse you in the rich and fascinating history of the area. Remember to stop by the Salumeria (delicatessen) on Via XX Settembre for a classic mortadella sandwich – a treat that never disappoints!

For dinner, nothing beats a seaside restaurant in Boccadasse. This charming fishing village is a picturesque corner of Genoa that looks like it came straight out of a postcard. While enjoying a plate of fritto misto (fried mixed seafood), you can watch the waves crashing on the shore. In the evening, the tranquillity of Boccadasse is truly priceless.

Day 3: Nature and sea: two essences of Genoa

On the third day, explore a different side of Genoa. Take a trip to Pegli, where you can visit the Gardens of Villa Durazzo Pallavicini. Here, among centuries-old trees, serene lakes and shaded pathways, time seems to slow down. It’s common to see locals strolling peacefully, enjoying the tranquillity that only nature can provide, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In the afternoon, board a boat for an excursion along the coast. Sailing between the cliffs and small bays, you’ll be gifted with the unique perspective of Genoa that only the sea can provide. If you have the chance, stop in Nervi, where a walk along the seafront will reward you with stunning views of the Gulf of Genoa.

Three days in Genoa are enough to capture your heart. The city exudes an effortless beauty that is simple and authentic, much like the smile of a Genoese who greets you with a cheerful ‘Benedetta giò!’ as you wind your way through the streets. In Genoa, you’ll embark on a journey that allows you to feel connected to a story that unfolds each day, weaving together the past, present and future.
