Sigurtà Garden Park
Confucius said that if you want to be happy all your life long, you should plant a garden. He was very probably right, but much pleasure and happiness can be gained without the work by simply visiting a garden.
This is certainly true when you discover the natural attractions of Sigurtà Garden Park at Valeggio sul Mincio (VR), an oasis of peace that extends over 600,000 square metres and is considered by world renowned botanists to be one of the most enchanting anywhere.
Numerous varieties of flowers, picturesque corners and breathtaking panoramas are the reasons why this Park has become a magnet to hundreds of thousands of visitors. There are the Five Great Flowerings (of, in time order, the Tulips, Irises, Roses, Lilies and Asters) that take us through the whole of the time the gardens are open, the Horizontal Sun Dial, the Hermitage, the Medicinal Herb Garden, the Great Oak, the Great Lawn, the eighteen flowering ornamental lakes and Romeo and Juliet's Belvedere.
Special mention should be made of the Maze, opened in 2011 it is an extraordinary labyrinth that unfolds among 1,500 yew trees, (the Taxus baccata L.), that stand more than two metres in height over a rectangular plan of 2,500 square meters.
Visiting the Sigurtà Garden Park means not only enjoying the beauties of nature but also discovering its long and fascinating history as host to illustrious figures from the past such as the emperors Napoleon III of France and Franz Josef I of Austria, Nobel prize winners and politicians.
