Apulia has some of the most beautiful coastline in Italy, so why not take advantage of your stay in Bari, especially in the summer, to enjoy the beaches?
Near Bari, for example, are the beaches of Polignano a Mare, among the most popular along the coast, some rocky, some with golden sand. One of the most famous beaches in Polignano a Mare is Cala Porto, in the centre of the town, with its characteristic round white stones. Another beach at Polignano is Cala Paura, a small cove that is very popular with the locals, where you can also try delicious fried fish at the trattoria by the beach, just a stone’s throw from the sea. If you prefer sand there's Porto Cavallo, a small beach ideal for children and families, right next to Polignano a Mare’s new marina. Another sandy beach is San Giovanni, with a lido providing beach huts, showers, sunshades, sun beds and other creature comforts.
Lido di Monopoliis also near Bari, with some of the best-known beaches in Apulia. Long stretches of white sands make it ideal for families with children and most of the beaches have lidos offering a range of facilities and places to eat.
The most famous beaches in the province of Bari also include Giovinazzo, with very shallow water dotted with the occasional rock and fine, light-coloured sand. Giovinazzo is one of the most popular destinations for tourists, attracted by the town’s charming historic centre.
