What to see in Nice between history and beauty
A visit to Nice must start from its famous seafront, the Promenade des Anglais. Overlooking the beautiful Baie des Anges, a white pebble beach that plunges into deep blue waters, this promenade is the meeting point for locals and tourists, an ideal place for a stroll, for outdoor sports or for a sunny day in one of the historic beach resorts. The view of the gulf that can be enjoyed from Castle Hill, an imposing rock overlooking the sea, which hosts a picturesque public park, is certainly one of the best things in Nice and offers a panorama of incomparable charm. Below it lies Vieux Nice, the historic centre and beating heart of the city, a maze of alleys teeming with life and buildings that testify to the Italian origins of this pearl of the Mediterranean. Pubs and ice cream parlours offer pleasant moments of refreshment while the local craft shops allow you to make interesting purchases.
Other Nice attractions
The museums dedicated to art are certainly among the best things to see in Nice. Two, in particular, deserve special attention: the Musée Matisse, housed in a 17th-century villa, and the Musée National Marc Chagall, which exhibits the great cycle of works dedicated by the artist to the Bible. Both institutions can be found in the elegant Cimiez district, where there are important ruins from the Roman era, and therefore offer the opportunity to go and discover the upper part of the city.
Unique Flavors and Nightlife
No less fascinating is a visit to modern Nice: Avenue Jean Medecin is undoubtedly one of the city's shopping temples, while the large Place Massena lights up the night with its tall, coloured obelisks, creating a magical and dreamlike atmosphere. Finally, the nearby Rue Massena is the starting point for tasting local delicacies - from socca to pissaladière to petit farcis - and the best of national and international cuisine. All accompanied, ça va sans dire, by a good glass of French wine.
