Discover Aarhus Airport
Aarhus Tirstrup AAR Airport can be reached with just 35 minutes drive from the city center and is an ideal starting and ending point for business flights and for reaching East Jutland. With several routes and charters, Aarhus Airport covers the most important and popular destinations in Europe, as a result it is one of the most strategic hubs of Denmark.
The airport’s activity started in 1946 when the Tirstrup - Copenhagen route was inaugurated. It was continually modernized and expanded. It is in the early 1990s, with increasing foreign traffic, that it changed its name to Aarhus Airport. The reason was that with this name it could be more easily associated with the city, helping foreigners traveling to Denmark.
The growing development of Aarhus and its nomination as European Capital of Culture in 2017 have transformed the airport into a setting for a series of related events, receiving the "Airport of the Year" award from the European Regions Airline Association in 2019. The location makes it a particularly convenient arrival point for discovering the southern Scandinavia, from Denmark’s capital Copenhagen to the nearby city of Malmo in Sweden.
The city and the airport are well connected by bus service. During the transfer, free WiFi service is available on the bus and a coffee will also be offered on board. Car owners can take advantage of the airport’s modern parking lot where vehicles can be conveniently parked in complete safety.
