Red Bull Cliff Diving 2017 at Polignano a Mare

Bari is by far one of the oldest and most suggestive cities in the world. You can find this beautiful place tucked away in the deep South of Italy, in the region of Apulia. If you're planning your summer vacation to Italy, and you're looking for ideas of what to do in Bari, then you should travel down to the coast, to the coastal town of Polignano a Mare. Here you can take the plunge into the highly competitive World Series of Red Bull Cliff Diving 2017.

Put the date in your diary, as on the 23rd of July Polignano a Mare is hosting a leg of the World Series for the fifth time since it first dived into the competition in 2009. It certainly provides a spectacular venue for both divers and spectators. In Polignano a Mare, the cliffs are the foundation of everyday life. This unusual and beautiful town is perched on a high precipice above the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea and over the centuries, houses have been created that nestle into the cliffs. Their windows are cut out of the rock face, giving the town its truly distinctive look.

Polignano a Mare is certainly an unusual venue, as it is from this cliff face that world class athletes launch themselves into the water. The take-off platforms are attached to a private roof-top terrace at heights of 27 metres and 21 metres above the waters of the Adriatic. To reach the platforms, the male and female competitors have to walk through a private living room.

As a venue for Red Bull Cliff Diving 2017, Polignano a Mare is definitely challenging for the competitors but is perfect for the audience. The natural amphitheatre of the bay gives enthusiasts and tourists alike a great view of these tough and testing dives. It creates an unbeatable atmosphere for the thousands of spectators who gasp in amazement as divers launch themselves into the void.

Located in the province of Bari, Polignano a Mare is a typical Southern Italian town, home for most of the year to just 16,000 inhabitants. The historic centre is a cosy maze of backstreets that are perfect for getting lost in before discovering rustic cafes and restaurants serving brilliant pasta, pizza and seafood. Stretch out on the rocky beaches at the foot of the cliffs or discover Apulia's coastline of sandy beaches and pretty bays before taking a boat trip to explore the caves that run deep into the cliffs.

So, what are you waiting for? Check out now our flight to Bari and plan your holidays in this enchanting place!
